Bookamurra, a giant kangaroo, is another creator from the Barkindji Dreamtime, the creator of the great lakes.
The Bookamurra came out of a township where Willandra Creek was created.
The hunters chased it down and they started spearing it.
Its tail created the Willandra Creek that would feed into the great lakes.
Bookamurra was getting injured by the spears and its swishing tail created the sand dunes.
The other tribal group near Mount Manara could hear the commotion, so they sent this bird to see what was happening.
It was a carrier pigeon and he came back and told them he’s worried that they’re chasing the giant kangaroo and will need some help.
So the other tribal group went down and gave them a hand and they ended up spearing this giant kangaroo in the lake as well.
As a reward they gave him the eyes of Bookamurra, and the bird carried them away.
They got a bit heavy so he dropped them and now there’s a constant fresh waterhole in the Walls of China, on the west end of Lake Mungo.
